Spiritual advantages compel us to resist evil.

The children of Israel were brought to a place of prominence in God because of how closely He related with them. They were able to experience God’s power first hand as they journeyed in the wilderness.

Here are some of the spiritual advantages that we can experience as children of God.

God did miracles that were made to inspire us. John wrote about the miracles that Jesus performed so that we may believe. The Israelites experienced miracles so that the love of God would be demonstrated in their lives.

Lessons learnt from miracles

i) Miracles show the love and mercies of God towards our plight.

When we see them, we are encouraged in the Lord

ii) They strengthen the faith of the believers.

The Israelites experienced numerous miracles but they didn’t appreciate them. We should not be like them. Miracles happen to us so that we may learn from them.

They positioned Israel as God’s people.

Purposes of sacraments

i) They signify God’s grace in a way outwardly observable by the participants. e.g through baptism and partaking in the Lord’s table.

God allows us to come closer to Him through these sacraments and shows us His immense love towards us.

ii) They help us become more spiritual and recognized by God.

iii) They are meant to be a deterrent from doing evil.

Apostle Paul in 1 Cor. 10 cautions us that we should not lust after the things of the world. God has already shown us His love and mercies by allowing us to partake in the sacraments.

God has favoured us so much by enabling us to be partakers in His Kingdom. We should therefore be careful to live right and not take these things for granted.
