Giving for one’s Advantage

Introduction

The scriptures encourage us to give for our own advantage: God loves a cheerful giver. Despite the current situation where the church is no longer meeting, giving is still a spiritual responsibility.

There are different areas for giving from the scriptures.

Some of them include:
1. Giving to God.

Malachi 3:8-11. We give God our tithes and offerings. Such a time as this, where we are not able to meet does not mean that we should not give. It is important for us to give tithes and offerings because we are faithful to God and our desire is to please Him.

2. Giving to the servants of God.

Galatians 6:6-10. We should be able to share with those who minister to us the word of God. These servants labor among us and hence we should share with them not only in kind but also our finances. Israel was told to give to maintain the Levites who were laboring among them. Paul tells the Galatians that the servants of God have a right to share

3. Give to serve one another.

Galatians 6:10. We should be mindful of the needs of other people among us. Romans 12:13 tells us that we should meet the needs of the saints. It is crucial to be sensitive about one another’s needs.

4. Giving to the poor.

Proverbs 19:17. We have poor people outside the church. The Bible says those who have pity on the poor lend to God. Some of us can afford to give finances while others can give in kind to meet the needs of the poor. Giving of our resources should be a means of reaching out to the community surrounding us. As we bring our support by Tuesday, it will help those in need in the church and outside.

Conclusion

It is very important that we:

 Give as a way of showing faithfulness to God. Let us be faithful with our giving even from our homes.
 Give and it shall be given back to you. It is good when we sacrifice something for the sake of another person.

Give because the Holy Spirit has prompted you to give and God will remember your family. We must be able to do the needful.
 May God remember us as we reflect on what we would share with others
