Scripture Ref: Isaiah 1:18-20
Introduction
Definition of terms:
1.Rebel- To raise an oppression against an organized government or leader
2.Protest- To express an objection towards what someone has said or done
3.Picketing- Where people surround, occupy, or block off an area. This borders rebellion.
4.Riots- Where protestors turn violent against people and property.
Can Christians protest?
Yes, Christians can protest but only to the extent of a rally and not violence.
The protestant church is called so because they protested. They expressed their dissatisfaction from what was being done and taught in the Catholic church.
The example of Nehemiah
-Nehemiah 5:1-12- The people brought the issues they had to Nehemiah. Nehemiah did not call for a riot but for a public rally. The solutions to the issues of the people were agreed upon that restoration be made.
-In respect to what is currently happening in Kenya, the Gen Z will not liberate the country. Much as the issues being raised are valid, nowhere in history did the children fight to liberate their parents; it is the parents who fight for their children.
Every generation has its own giants to slay and this is not for the Gen Z. The Gen Z will slay their own giants in their time. This is not their time yet.
-According to Nehemiah 13:11. 17, Nehemiah kept on protesting.
Other biblical examples
1.Jesus (Matthew 16:22-23)- Jesus protested when Peter was telling Him that He should not go on to the cross.
2.John the Baptist (Luke 3:19)- John protested against Herod when he married Herodias, his brother’s wife.
3.God (Psalm 50:61)- God protested against the wicked.
-The bible says in Proverbs 27:5 that an open rebuke is better than hidden love. You are allowed to protest but only to the level of speaking it out.
Recalling our Gen Z from protests
-(Matt 6:25), Life is precious and the body too is precious; losing one soul is very costly. Even when the Gen Z feel that they have nothing to lose, it is very painful for the parents should they lose their son/daughter.
-In Luke 17:1-4, the bible says that offences must come but woe to the one through whom they come. Woe is something that causes sorrow. Don’t be the one to cause sorrow. Judas didn’t have to be the one who would betray Jesus. Gen 4:6-7, the sin to kill was at the door desiring to have Cain, but he didn’t have to do it. If protests must be done, we don’t have to be the ones to do it.
-Ezekiel 33:1-6 ,as a watchman I am blowing the trumpet to the young people, the Gen Z: do not be involved in the planned protests.
Gen Z
-These are people born between 1997-2012.
-Their priorities include: social consciousness, career development, financial stability, political engagement, climate change, social justice, gender equality, LGBTQ+ and rights.
-Some of their priorities are good, others questionable, and others outrightly wrong.
Conclusion
We want you Gen Z alive and with a body. Do not engage in the protests as planned.
