Saying NO to ungodliness

Introduction
There is grace available to us today that teaches us to say no to all ungodliness.

Biblical role models
1. Joseph – Exodus 39:4-12
-Joseph was put in charge of all that Potipher had. Even so, Joseph knew his boundaries- he knew that he was not supposed to touch Potipher’s wife. He knew if he touched her he could not only sin against Potipher but moreso against God.
-Though we are in the world we are not of the world. The world is full of enticing things but, like Joseph, we must set our boundaries. There are things we can touch and there are things we must not touch. The Word of God is our governing authority.

2. Daniel -Daniel 1:5-15
-Daniel also drew his boundaries. All the delicious foods and drinks were set before him but he resolved not to defile himself with the king’s delicacies. He chose to eat vegetables and water, and after the ten days he appeared ten times better than those who ate the king’s delicacies. God gave him favour because he remained loyal to Him than to the earthly masters.
-Daniel 3:16-18 Shadrach, Meshach and Abedneggo were willing to give up their lives than deny their faith in God. They went all the way to the furnace knowing that God would save them, and -per adventure He didn’t- they chose to die than to bow to the king’s image! May we have such courage!

3. Jesus -Matthew 4:1-7
-Jesus is our chief role model. Though He was fully God He lived as a man during His earth walk.
-When He was tempted by the devil in the wilderness He overcame him by the Word of God, saying, “It is written…”!
-Know the Word of God and apply it.

Ways to overcome

James 4:7
– Submit yourself to God; know the Word of God and draw your boundaries based on God’s Word. Psalm 119:11- I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.
– Resist the devil; when we are fully submitted to God (God’s Word) we shall resist the devil and he shall flee from us.

Conclusion

Let us make use of the grace that has been availed to us in this dispensation and say NO to all ungodliness.
