Youth involvement in ministry

Introduction
Jesus Himself established these ministry gifts.

The fivefold ministries -Ephesians 4:11

1. Apostles
-The name Apostle means one who is sent out. Apostles start new works and oversee their growth.
-Examples of Apostles: Jesus was the first Apostle- He was sent by the Father to come and save mankind (Hebrews 3:1); Paul (Galatians 1:1, Rom 16:7); Apostle Harry Das who begun the Chrisco work.

2. Prophets
-They speak a new message to the people/give revelation
-Examples: Paul Acts 11:2-28, Acts 21:10; there were prophets at Antioch Acts 13:1; Prophet Muna is a prophet in Chrisco.

3. Evangelists
-They preach the good news of Jesus Christ to the people.
-Example: Philip (Acts 8:26); Timothy (2 Timothy 4:5); Pastor Gikaara

4. Pastors
-They shepherd God’s flock. They deeply care for, protect, feed, guard and keep watch over the flock. They lay down their lives for the flock. They encourage, rebuke, and attend to the needs of the flock. The are also interested in the fruitfulness of the sheep.
-Examples: Timothy and Titus- they were charged to oversee the churches that Paul had started; Presbyter Kiganjo; Pastor Rose; Pastor Karugu; Pastor Gikaara.
-The 3 letters, 1&2Timothy and Titus, are also called the “Pastoral Epistles” because they were written to pastors.

5. Teachers
– They are gifted in teaching the Word of God.
-Examples Paul (Acts 13:1); Presbyter Kiganjo.

Purpose of the 5-fold ministries
1. To prepare God’s people for works of service
2. Help us have the unity of the faith
3. Christian maturity
4. Establish stability in faith so that we are not deceived.
-We have the potential to operate in these offices.

Ordinary Gifts -Romans 12:6-8
1. Prophesy- one should operate in the gift of prophesy according to the measure of faith that one has.
2. Serving- they deal with the outside work of the work of God (Nehemiah 11:16, Acts 6:2)
3. Teaching e.g in Bible study
4. Exhortation- capacity to encourage towards faith and maturity (Acts 11:22-24, Romans 12:8)
5. Giving- 2Corinthians 8:1-7. First is the heart to give, not the amount, that really counts. May we excel in the grace of giving.
6. Leadership -If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously.” Romans 12:8 The gift of leadership is very people-oriented more than just task-oriented. Pray and ask God if you have this gift, ask Him how you can use that gift to make a difference for the kingdom of God.
7. Mercy- capacity to detect hurt and feel compassion to people who are hurting (Luke 10:30-37)
8. Hospitality- the willingness to welcome and entertain visitors (1Peter 4:9)

-Romans 12:3-5 The different distribution of these gifts is the work of grace.

Conclusion
Memory verse:
Colossians 3:23-24
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ
