The Grace of God
- Sermon By: Bro. Evans Kimanjara
- Categories: Youth Service
Introduction
-Grace means the unmerited favour. It’s when you receive something that you do not deserve. Grace and mercy are two sides of a coin.
-Grace is the God-given ability for us to desire and do His will.
Grace
- Grace is an attribute of God -Psalm 145:8
God is gracious. When God is giving us grace He is not giving us something, He gives Himself to us.
- Grace comes through Jesus Christ -John 1:17
God has given Himself to us through Jesus Christ. Jesus is God.
- Grace is eternal -2 Timothy 1:9
Grace was given before time begun. This grace was at work in the Old Testament time as well as in the New testament. In Genesis 9, Noah found favor with God; that was grace. Abraham was chosen by God’s grace.
- Grace is a gift from the Lord -Rom 3:24
Grace has been given to us freely, we cannot earn it. Our justification is purely by the grace of God.
- Grace can be resisted -Heb 12:15
This can happen through;
a) Bitterness- When we allow the root of bitterness spring in us we fall short of the grace of God. Therefore, when we are offended we should show mercy and forgiveness.
b) Pride (James 4:6)– when humility checks out pride checks in. We should always acknowledge and appreciate the grace of God in our lives. We are what we are by the grace of God and we all we have is by the grace of God.
c) Attempting to be justified by works (Gal 5:4-7)
The grace of God is limitless -Rom 5:20
The grace of God is at a higher level than our sins and it’s available in an equal measure to all, even to the unbelievers. You cannot out-sin the grace of God.
The benefits of accessing the grace of God
- i) Salvation -Eph 2:8-9
- ii) The infilling of the Holy Spirit -Gal 3:2
iii) The miracles we experience in our lives -1 Cor 15:10, Phil 2:13
- iv) We are able to handle the trials that come in our lives -2 Cor 12:8-9
The misconceptions of Grace
- That we can increase the grace of God in our lives by doing good works.
The grace of God is unconditional and there is nothing we can do, no matter how good, to increase His grace in our lives.
- That we can keep on sinning and coming back to God for forgiveness since we are under grace.
In Romans 6:15-16 we are told that that cannot be! We cannot keep on sinning because we are under grace.
- That the grace of God does not remove the consequences of our actions here on earth (Gal 6:7).
