Introduction
At the face of uncertainty, our hope is in God. Samaria, one section in Israel, was surrounded by Syrians. The siege lasted for so long until people started eating each other.
The king blamed Prophet Elisha of that whole scenario. Prophet Elisha said, “Hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord: ‘Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour shall be sold fora shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria”. The situation was so bad so that when one of the officers heard thishe highly doubted.
However, the prophecy still came to pass after the four lepers reported on how the Syrians had left the camp intact. They had fled after the Lord amplified the steps of the
four lepers which made them think that the King of Israel had hired the Kings of Hittites and Egyptians to help him attack them. The prediction about plenty was fulfilled.
The unbelieving officer also saw the food but he was trodden to death at the gate as people rushed to get food fulfilling the prophecy given by Prophet Elisha too.
The four lepers represent me, you, all Christians. Their story should be our story.
Lessons Learnt
a. Hope came through these four Lepers Leviticus 13:45-46. These four lepers were in the worst situation possible, enemy at their back, death where they were and death in the city. They had one possible choice and they put one foot in front of the other in the direction of that option.
b. Hope comes by taking risks. They decided to risk it all and visit the enemy camp. When they arrived, it was vacated. The enemy had fled in the night, frightened by a loud sound from God. The Lepers thought like death was hovering around their lives, but they took their risk in God.
c. Hope comes from an unexpected corner.
God can cause things to happen around your life. The fact is, these men were about to stumble into the find of a lifetime. They would not have been able to make-up what
they were about to discover. The most unlikely group of men would find what would restore their Nation! 2kings 7:5-8
d. Hope from these four Lepers brought hope to other people- As a church, as an individual we must spend our lives telling others the good news. God’s provision is so great we simply cannot keep it to ourselves!
e. Hope which is seen by believing comes with a lot of blessings.
When they returned to the city, they shouted over the wall that there were untold riches just over the hill.
Conclusion
God wants to show us His power and sovereignty – not just in death and salvation of our souls, but in this life here and now. you with this situation.
Let’s us learn to take risks in God even in our worst situations. Not everyone will accept the good news. Doubt and fear are what holds so many people back. The king almost missed it cause of doubt.
