Reasons for partaking the Lord’s Table

Readings: 1st Corinthians 11:23-34, Hebrews 12:1, Ezra 2: 51-63

Introduction
*During the medieval times, Christian doctrines were highly regarded without question. However with the passage of time, this has not been the case. Practices such as taking the Holy communion have been questioned therefore it’s not held in high regard like before.
Reasons for taking the Holy communion
1. In remembrance of Christ’s death. His death was for our sake since He took a place that was not His own. Christ’s death was redemptive. He paid for our freedom through His own blood. It therefore removed us from the enslavement of sin.
2. In proclamation of the Lord’s death. We are to proclaim that Christ died for all without exception. When we proclaim His return, we look back at the work of the cross as we look forward to His return.
3.It gives us an opportunity to give thanks. Because Christ did so much for us, we are required to give thanks for having being brought into the family of God.
4. It gives us an opportunity to examine our hearts and be repentant lest we bring judgement upon ourselves. We are just but sinners saved by grace.
5. It helps us fellowship with God and one another. The bread and cup from which we partake is one.
6. It’s an acknowledgement of the existence of a covenant between God and man. When we partake of it, we become stronger.

Conclusion
*May we always acknowledge the work of the cross as we look forward to the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
