Raising Children

Introduction

Psalms 127. 3
Behold children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward.

The children that we have are a gift from the Lord. You should hold them as a gift from the Lord.

When we receive these children from God, then there is a way we are supposed to bring them up in the Lord.

The children of Eli misbehaved and God judged them and their father Eli alike.

Raising children

Proverbs  22.6
Train up a child in the way he should go, and He is old he will not depart from it.

Deuteronomy 6.4-

In the book of Exodus God had given the ten commandments. The parents were given a responsibility to teach the statues of the Lord diligently to their children. We are supposed to teach the children with alot of zeal.

The Israelites were supposed to teach these things to their children whenever they were seated.

In raising children;
1. Teach the word of God to the children when you are walking with them. When you rise up, tell them the word of God too.
You are supposed to bind the word of God on your heart.

The word of God is supposed to be close to you, infront of your eyes for both you and your children.
We are commanded to write the commandments of the Lord on the door posts of our houses and the gates.

2. You train up children so that they avoid death.

Proverbs  19.18- Train up a children on discipline. A parent should discipline their children.
We have work to do.

Proverbs  23.22
Every parent has a role in disciplining the children.

3. Honor your parents if they are still there. Support them and comfort them.
Ephesians 6:1
Honor your father and mother that your days may be increased
If you are married, do not hit your wife or husband, because they are somebody’s child and are also God’s children.

Don’t worry that children don’t listen to you, worry that they are watching you.

Conclusion

By having your children dedicated to the Lord, you are committing yourself to raise your child in God’s way.
