- Sermon By: Deacon Samuel Kimani
- Categories: Youth Service
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:15
INTRODUCTION
The reason that Jesus died and rose again, is so that you might live for Him.
Until the time that you gave your life to Christ, you have been living for yourself or maybe for satan.
When we were participating in the sins of Adam and Eve as the ate the fruit, we were proclaiming that we don’t want God to rule over us.
Jesus Christ came to bring us back to the kingdom of God for Adam was to live for God just as satan was.
— Kinds of living;
1. Living for self
2. Living for Christ
This two kinds of living are set in opposition to each other and they displace each other. (Matthew 6:24)
The default setting of human being is to live for self.
Living for self doesn’t require effort but living for Jesus requires effort since there is always a force trying to pull us back to default setting.
1. LIVING FOR SELF
√ Live for self, you will see it in mind and body.
√ Living for self is the default setting of our mind and body.
(Colossians 3:1-3) We should set set our minds on the thing that are above.
√ Living for self in our minds;
i) As humans we tend to slide back and setting our minds on earthly things (Matthew 16:21-24)
ii) Setting our minds on earthly things is having a disproportionate minding of the affairs of this life like marriage and money and it clouds our devotion to God and it causes our devotion to go a notch lower, and also placing ourselves where by satan can take advantage of us.
iii) When we use a lot of energy and time in making progress in life, we give ourselves to this kind of faulty world views.
√ Living for self in our body;
i) It is when we are giving ourselves out lightly to sins where by we give up and allow sins to have dominion over us. (Romans 6:14)
ii) Its when we can give ourselves disproportionately to things that are necessary but they are becoming a hindrance and barden to us being close to God and living for Christ.
SOLUTION FOR NOT LIVING FOR SELF
√ Finding peace in God ( Philippians 4:6-7)
√ We should labour more for the food that does not perish but lasts up for everlasting life which is the word of God
√ Worshipping and fellowship with God
2. LIVING FOR CHRIST. ( Matthew 16:24)
√ It means a subjugation of the flesh and its desires. ( Galatians 5:24)
√ Pursuit of Spiritual disciplines :
1) Solitude; Setting ourself apart to hear from Jesus
2) Meditation
3) personal Bible study
4) Prayer
5) fellowship
6) worship
√ Involvement in ministry; a person that is living for Jesus it is seen that he is serving Jesus, living for Jesus is serving Jesus. ( Titus 2:14)
CONCLUSION
We should place ourselves on the measuring scale and see if we are living for ourselves or for the one who died and rose for us so that we may live for Him
