Learning to Know the voice of God

Introduction

King Jehoshaphat approached a matter in two ways.400 prophets were brought to advise on whether the king should go into a battle but King Jehoshaphat doubted
their words. Prophet Micaiah was brought who told the truth. Although he ignored the warning from God, when he cried to the Lord, the Lord had mercy on him.

Why it is important to hear the voice of God

Because God values obedience

He speaks clearly and does it repeatedly, so that we may know his will: for example, Gideon placed many tests before God, and God was not tired of answering him.

Abraham was told to sacrifice his Son. It was required of Abraham to be very sure it is the voice of God.

Two Situations where we need to learn to know the voice of God

Situation 1: When you know the will of God (2Chronicles 18:1-12):

a) Jehoshaphat knew the will of God but proceeded to go to war and almost died.

b) He ignored the counsel of the true Prophet Micaiah.

c) He linked himself with the wrong people like Ahab and was very idle.

Examples of situations where we know the will of God:

1. The requirement that you do not yoke yourself with unbelievers.

2. The requirement that you seek to glorify the Lord.

3. The instruction to obey our parents.

Situation 2: When we do not know the will of God:

We should pray and fast in such situations.

For example, Jehoshaphat proclaimed a fast for all Judah when an army from Edom (the armies from Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir) came against Judah (2 Chron. 20:1-12).

Elijah was in the wilderness for 40 days when he heard the voice of the Lord. Moses went to the mountain to seek the will of God, where he got the 10 commandments.

Jesus fasted for 40 days and was alone in the wilderness seeking the voice of the Lord.

What to do

As young people, we are encouraged to commune with God that He may guide us on His will.

Conclusion

May God give us hearts that will obey the Lord and wisdom to make right decisions where we are uncertain of His will.
