Holy Living

Salvation is the reception of a calling into a way of life that is characterized by holiness. God is holy and hates sin. He is so committed in eradicating the problem of sin and ensuring the holiness of humanity that He offered up His Son as the atonement for humanity’s Sin.

Holiness can be viewed as cleanness in a spiritual sense. To live holy means to live set apart for God; free from evil and sin; living a pure life. God is holy, and He calls us to be holy like He is (1 Peter 1:14-16) vs 16 ……. for it is written, be holy because I am holy; Leviticus 19:2, 1 Thessalonians 4:1-7.

Christ undertakes the sanctification of His Sheep. Ephesians 5:25, 26, Hebrews 10:14. This does not negate personal exertion in the road to holiness. It takes personal effort and a conscious decision to live a holy life; Hebrews 12:1, 1 Cor 9:27, 1 John 3:3.

Why must we live holy lives?

The call of God toward us to be His Children is a calling to Holy Lives. – 2 Timothy 1:9, 1 Peter 2:4, Titus 2:14. It is the proof of the Fear of God in our lives. Proverbs 8:13,

Holiness is the character of the people of God. It is in the DNA of God’s children to live holy lives. 1 Peter 1:16, Gal 5:24. Without holiness, we shall not inherit eternal life – We have no part with Christ. Hebrews 12:14, Revelation 21:27.

Benefits of Holiness

  1. Holiness fosters intimacy with God and builds spiritual strength and stability (Psalm 15:1-6) vs1-2
  2. Holiness makes us useful and effective for God’s purposes (2 Timothy 2:20-26) vs21
  3. Holiness in your life causes people around you to glorify God (1 Peter 2:9-12) vs 11-12
  4. Holiness builds peace with God (2 Peter 3:10-18) vs14
  5. Holiness pleases God and produces “fruit” (Ephesians 5:1-17) vs7-10

How do we practically pursue holiness?

  1. We need to realize that it is impossible without God. We need the Holy Spirit to fill us with God’s holiness and power for godly living.
  2. This is not possible unless you have first surrendered your life to Jesus Christ and become born again, made righteous in God’s sight (Ephesians 1:13; Romans 5:1).
  3. Interaction with the Word of God. The Word purifies us. Build a consistent culture of studying God’s word. – John 17:17, John 15:3, Psalm 119:9, 11.
  4. The Discipline of the Lord through afflictions. – Hebrews 12:3-11, Psalm 119:67.
  5. Fellowship with Brethren – 2 Timothy 2:22.

The Devil does his most destructive work on saints who separate themselves from other believers. Keep close to the Fellowship of Brethren.
