FINDING REST IN CHRIST
- Sermon By: Pastor Samuel Kiiru
- Categories: Main Service
Reference Scriptures: Matthew 11: 28-30
Introduction
These are amongst the most comforting words from Jesus. It is very appealing.
It shows that Christ has identified our needs as individuals.
Christ is saying He is gentle and humble towards all.
1. There is an invitation at first. Christ has seen our turbulent life and He is inviting us to Himself. He’s seen us running all over trying to make our lives work. Truth is it’s not hard to find Him because He is the one beconing us. All those who Labor, weary and are heavy laden are qualified to this invitation.
2. Next, Jesus tells us to take up His yoke. This sounds like a contradiction. Maybe we expected Him to say come and sleep or take a vacation. We cannot have a life without Labor. Even in Genesis, after creating all things, God gave man the work of dominion. Instead, Jesus says His yoke is light. It is light because it follows teaching. He came to serve. May we get to know Him and in our faith, He will order our lives.
3. He gives us a promise. This is the second time He mentions rest. This is the rest that is discovered after you commit to Him. It is peace. You shall discover, the yoke is light. That we may know God as He truly is. As you learn more about Him , you find rest for your soul not necessarily your physical body.
CONCLUSION
You can have peace with God even if the whole world is against you because He has invited you. He has promised to help us. In Haggai 2:4 it says , be strong for I am without. We can stand on His promises.
