God’s choice versus Our Choice

Scripture Reference: 1 Samuel 8:4-22

Introduction
Do we get confused when we are making choices? How do we know our choice is ours and not God’s choice?
sometimes we push for something in prayer but it’s not the will of God but ours therefore we need to be careful even in our prayers that we are aligned to God’s will. Alignment to God’s will will cause some things to happen automatically.
We are to put God first and involve Him from the beginning of a matter. He is not a clutch we run to for support but He is the Alpha and Omega. Put God first!

Examples of people that prayed beforehand
1. Zechariah Luke 1:13
He trusted God for a son and prayed and God answered and gave him John who baptized Jesus.
2. Jesus
During transfiguration Jesus said “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” Luke 22:42
Do you have the courage when you are going through trials and tribulations to tell God not my Will but Yours be done?
3. Hannah
She prayed a prayer of bitterness in 1 Samuel 1:10-12 and God opened her womb and she bore Samuel.
Have you sought God on that which you want?
4. David
2 Samuel 2:1 David enquired of the LORD whether to go into any of the cities of Judah.
Do we enquire of the Lord over things that seem simple?

Ways to Know that it’s not God’s will
1.There will be no peace. 1 Cor 14:33
Be still and pray more about it and let God orchestrate the movements.
2.There will be no fruit. Matthew 7:16-17
If something is the will of God no matter what it will bear fruit and the opposite is true.
3.There is no counsel from our community. Psalms 1:1 whatever takes you away from God and the counsel of your community is not God’s will and we should also not be unequally yoked with non-believers.
4.It does not put God first. Matthew 6:33
5.The closed doors. Revelation 3:7
When an opportunity is from God you don’t have to force it

The warnings
The Israelites are given warnings regarding their desire for a king but they didn’t listen.
As young people do we listen and heed God’s warnings? When you get a warning through a dream or other people listen and pray.

The door opened by God is characterized by:
1. It will not contradict His word.
2. It will be accompanied by confirmations
3. It will require you to wholly depend on Him.

Conclusion
Before making any decision pray; let go and let God. Surrender, Submit and seek Him above everything.
