We have a good reason to continue trusting in God.

Introduction

God moved the seven judges of the supreme court to make a unanimous decision.
God heard our prayers. Last Sunday the Presbyter guided us to split into seven groups and pray for the seven judges of the supreme court.

We have a good reason to continue trusting in God.

Psalms 121 this is a song of ascent. The Israelites would sing such as they travelled up to Jerusalem after completing three fiests. These were final instructions given to the children of Israel by Moses as we can see in Deuteronomy 16.16.

_1. The festival of unleavened bread./
Passover which commemorated the exodus from Egypt
2. The festival of weeks/first fruits or pentecost which commemorated the giving of the law in Mt sinai.
_3. The festival of tabernacles._which commemorated wandering in the wildernesses where they lived in tents.

They were also never to appear before the Lord empty-handed.

Psalms 121 is a cry of despair.
When this happens, where do we turn to?
The psalmist gives us the answer by reminding us that our help can only come from the Lord.

We all find ourselves in situations of despair where we don’t know where our help will come from.
* If you are struggling today or have something troubling you, hold on, help is coming on the way.
* Some scholars have noted that the opening words of Psalms 121 can be interpreted in three ways:
a. Comfort and security. By lifting up our eyes unto the hills/unto the Lord, we are being reminded that God is all powerful.
b. During that time, the children of Israel had gotten into alot of idolatry. The psalmist was thus saying that if I look up to the hills, is there hope in those hills where idolatry is being practiced? This is why in the King’s James version it is a question.
c. The third interpretation brings the aspect of danger or peril. The hills in Israel are not easy hills but dangerous hills that are very difficult to climb.
They were dangerous and risky places to walk.
So the Psalmist is asking, how will I get help if these hills are this dangerous?

All these interpretations lead us all into one main question, where does your help come from?

Conclusion

We must know where our help comes from or will come from?
Issues like these are common to all of us. Like the tough economic times.
If your help comes from anything else other than God, you are up for a disappointment.
Family will disappoint you, business associates will disappoint you, people will dissapoint you. Only God is dependable.
Psalms 121.3 tells us that God will not allow your feet to be moved. Because He who keeps Israel does not slumber.
The sun will not harm you by day. May God give us that peace, that we can rest assured that our help comes from Him.
Our faith in God is what will give us peace.

* God will keep us from all evil.
* God keeps us in good health.

Everyone will disappoint us. The people we expect to be by our side will disappoint us. But God will never disappoint us. Let us leave our battles to God.
