God takes responsibility in His promises, let us reciprocate by believing and being blessed

Ref: John 6:35, John 8:12, John 10:9, John 11:25, John 15:5

Introduction

Jesus taught through all the above verses: I am the bread of life, I am the way, I am the resurrection, I am the good shepherd, I am the door, I am the vine and others to show the meaning of taking responsibility. Among all religions, Christianity has one distinguishing feature: Jesus accepting to take responsibilities. There are seven instances in the Bible that Jesus repeated I AM -an identity of God. Jesus taught through the above verses to show the world that they should take responsibility.

Jesus challenges us to take responsibilities so that we can partake in His promises and hence blessings.

Reasons for taking responsibility

  1. So that we can enter through Him. If anyone enters through Jesus (the door) he shall be saved.(John 10:9)
  2. So that we can follow Jesus. If we follow Jesus, we shall not walk in darkness. We are all called to be followers of Jesus. Judas was a bad follower and that is why he failed. Many books have been written on good leadership while none for good followers. We ought to follow Jesus and move away from any destructions. We therefore must perfect our following. (John 8:12)
  3. So that we believe in Jesus. As Christians, we should take that responsibility of believing that when believers are called we should stand and not hesitate. (John 11:25)
  4. We must abide in Jesus if we have to bear fruits. The idea of believing is geared to bearing fruits. Many fail to bear fruits because of doubt, fear and other issues. (John 5:15)
  5. Taking responsibilities bring blessings. John 6:35- He who comes to Him shall not lack.

Matthew 6:33– Our primary responsibility is to seek the kingdom of God. God will do whatever He has to do to see that we have everything we need.

John 10:9 – If we enter through His door we shall find pasture.

John 8:12 – Those that follow Him shall not have darkness but eternal life. This means we gain vision when we come to Christ.

John 11:25– We shall have life.

John 15:5– We shall bear fruits- we get a sense of belonging when we take responsibility.

Conclusion

According to sociologists, we are products of society. We are happy to have people around us. If we abide in the vine then as branches we will bear fruits. In African context “I am because we are and because we are I am”. This form of connectivity gives us warmth, contentment, belonging and so on in the house of God.
